Landscape Lighting in Phoenix, AZ

Solterra designs and installs low-voltage LED landscape lighting across Phoenix, from the mature citrus and palo verde of Arcadia and Moon Valley to the historic facades of Willo and Encanto. We use sealed, heat-rated brass and copper fixtures to uplight desert plants, wash walls, and light paths and patios, turning yards that are too hot by day into spaces you actually use after dark.

In Phoenix the yard only becomes comfortable once the sun drops, so for most of the year landscape lighting is what decides whether an outdoor space gets used at all. A well-planned low-voltage LED system does three jobs at once: it makes steps, drives and walkways safe to cross after dark, it lifts curb appeal from the street, and it puts the architecture of the yard on display all night. The approach shifts with the neighborhood. On the citrus-shaded estate lots in Arcadia and the Biltmore, there are mature trees and long walls worth lighting, while the compact bungalow lots in the Willo and Encanto historic districts reward tighter, more intentional accent lighting on a few facades and specimen plants.

Most Phoenix yards use a mix of techniques planned together so the result reads as one design rather than a scatter of bright spots. Uplighting is where the desert really shows off: a single well-aimed fixture turns a saguaro, an ocotillo or a mature palo verde into a sculptural silhouette against the stucco. Wash lighting grazes block walls and the retaining walls common on Ahwatukee and Moon Valley hillside lots to bring out texture, path and step lights make grade changes safe, and hardscape fixtures tucked under seat-wall caps and paver steps outline a patio. Around an existing pool we light the deck and the surround, never the pool itself, so the whole space stays usable at night.

An outdoor system in Phoenix has to survive conditions a shaded climate never tests. Fixtures bake in 115-degree sun, then get blasted with dust and driving rain when the monsoon rolls in, so we install sealed, heat-rated LED fixtures in brass or copper that will not corrode or fog the way cheap cast-aluminum big-box units do. Burying the low-voltage cable is its own desert problem, because caliche is cement-hard and does not trench easily, so we route and protect the wire carefully rather than forcing it, and we seal every connection against moisture. LED also runs cool and sips power, so even a full yard of lighting adds little to a monthly bill and rarely needs a bulb change.

Much of Phoenix sits inside an HOA, and communities near the Phoenix Mountains Preserve and South Mountain often enforce dark-sky rules that limit glare and uplight spilling into the night sky. We design to that from the start with shielded, warm-white fixtures aimed down or across surfaces, not floods blasting upward, and we can supply fixture details if your HOA needs a submittal. Every install starts with a night walk of the property to place fixtures where they earn their keep, then we size a transformer with headroom and set a photocell or timer so the system comes on at dusk on its own. Low-voltage lighting is also one of the easiest systems to retrofit, so we add it to finished patios and mature planting without tearing anything up, and budgets scale cleanly from a few accent lights to a whole property.

Landscape Lighting in Phoenix: common questions

We've answered the most common questions to help you understand the process, timing, and what to expect.

How much does landscape lighting cost in Phoenix?

Most low-voltage projects here run about 200 to 400 dollars per installed fixture, which covers the fixture, the wiring, a share of the transformer, and labor. A handful of accent lights on an Encanto bungalow costs far less than lighting a full Arcadia estate lot. We walk the yard at dusk and quote a firm number with no obligation.

Will the fixtures survive Phoenix heat and monsoon storms?

Yes, when they are the right fixtures. We install sealed, heat-rated LED units in brass or copper, which shrug off 115-degree sun, blowing dust and monsoon rain far better than the cast-aluminum fixtures big-box kits use. Every connection is sealed against moisture, and quality LED fixtures typically run many years without a bulb change.

Will the lighting meet my HOA and dark-sky rules?

In most cases, yes. Many Valley HOAs, especially near the Phoenix Mountains Preserve and South Mountain, restrict glare and light thrown up into the sky. We design with shielded, warm-white fixtures aimed down or across surfaces so the yard looks intentional and stays within the rules, and we supply the fixture details if your HOA has a submittal process.

Does landscape lighting run up my electric bill?

Not meaningfully. Low-voltage LED fixtures draw a small fraction of the power old halogen systems used, so even a full yard of lighting adds little each month. A photocell or timer runs the system only from dusk to a set hour, so nothing burns power in daylight. It is one of the cheaper upgrades to operate in a Phoenix yard.

Can you add lighting to a yard we already finished?

Yes. Low-voltage lighting is one of the easiest systems to retrofit, so we regularly add it to existing patios, paver work and mature desert planting without tearing anything up. Most projects wrap in a day or two on site. We handle the low-voltage side only; if a new exterior outlet or panel work is needed, that is a licensed electrician's job.
